Hats Off to Fall

In this neutral-colored look, I've opted to accessorize with a mixture of jewelry, a hat, booties and a matching cross-body. I am currently loving this statement-making black wool hat from Forever 21. Not only does it keep me warm, but it gives an everyday fall look an extra dose of drama. Floppy hats such as this can be dressed up or dressed down to fit all sorts of autumnal occasions, making it a great investment piece to purchase.

One of my favorite things about fall fashion are the shoe choices. Boots, booties, knee-high boots - you can have them all. For this look, I went with a pair of Chelsea boots from Free People. What I love about this boot style is the versatility offered. Due to the low heel and short length, these boots are perfect for pairing with jeans like I did or could be worn with fall dresses and skirts.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn

Although summer has officially come to a close, it certainly does not feel that way. With the weather not yet fall but no longer the dog days of summer, we find ourselves in the middle of the road not yet able to commit to sweaters but not yet time to pack away the shorts.

By mixing neutrals with metallics, this look not only embodies an earthy and fashionable feel, but also utilizes a color pallet perfect for the transition from summer to fall. Shift dresses and neutral colored clothing are a great way to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall without jumping straight from floral dresses to vests just yet.

What I love about this Free People dress is the balance of elegant lace and neckline with the casualness of the shift-shape and frayed hem. With shift dresses continuing their popularity this school year, they're a great investment if you are in the market for casual-yet-cute wear.

Although I am not yet ready to say goodbye to the warm weather, I am looking forward to wearing the autumnal pieces that have been collecting dust in my closet since last year. For now, I suggest we all take note from my lovely friend Lidia pictured above and continue to wear our sandals and shifts while we still can, because next thing you know the leaves will be gone and snow will be on the ground.

A few weeks back, I was lucky enough to be invited by Olivia of a drop in the ocean to attend the back-to-school party she was throwing sponsored by Teen Vogue. The Sunday afternoon was full of making crafts, trying on clothes and learning about new beauty + skincare products all courtesy of the lovely team at Teen Vogue. A big shout out to my new friend Olivia, so happy to have found another blogger while at school! I've been an avid reader of Teen Vogue since I was just a tween trying to figure out how fashion worked, so it was a great experience to attend an event inspired by the magazine itself. Introduction to #PinkSponsoredStylist

As I begin my junior year of college, I am excited to be working alongside PINK on my campus as part of their new Campus Stylist program. By becoming a #pinksponsoredstylist, I am able to help create social media content for PINK that can be spotted on their social media channels such as Instagram and Twitter, in their newsletters and on their PINK Nation app. Through the Campus Stylist program, PINK is encouraging real women in college to show how they would personally style and wear their favorite leggings, tees, pullovers and more. What I love about PINK is their ability to take comfy clothes that are perfect for wearing to class, and adding an extra boost of style to them. I'm currently enjoying the neutral color palette of clothing including olive, mauve, grey and navy that can be seen in the fall collection currently in stores now. Make sure to follow PINK this year, you'll never know where I might just pop up!

Summer Beauty feat. Play! by Sephora

This past month, I decided to put Sephora's version of a subscription beauty box called Play! to the test. The results? Sephora takes the gold. Until now, I've never come across a subscription box in which I have actually enjoyed all of the products included in said box. What impressed me about Sephora's Play! were the quality brands included within the July box. The products came from high-end brands such as Benefit, Smashbox, beautyblender and more.

The product that stood out to me the most was the Benefit "Dew The Hoola" liquid bronzer. Never before have I been brave enough to branch out of my powder bronzers and try a liquid. After only one use, I was hooked. Liquid bronzer, which seemed daunting and I pictured ending with me looking like I had a bad spray tan, was surprisingly easy to apply and left me looking more sun-kissed than my usual bronzer. This product is great for summer skin because it easily glides on over BB cream for a dewy and natural look.

To keep our faces from falling victim to oily skin this summer, Sephora included Smashbox's "Photo Finish" primer and beautyblender's "Blotterazzi" blotting sponge. The combination of these two products has kept my makeup from sweating off my face in the summer heat, and for that I am thankful. What is nice about the blotting sponge is not only does it keep your makeup in place, but it also replaces the need to use multiple blotting sheets at once. Another plus, its washable!

Moving away from makeup, Sephora also included a few products for hair and skin. For beachy waves straight from celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin, Play! included Ouai "Wave Spray". This product can be used on wet or dry hair and works with all hair types. Simply spray, scrunch your hair, and look like a mermaid straight out of the sea. For fresh skin, I tried out the First Aid Beauty "Face Cleanser" which specializes in working for those with sensitive skin. This cleanser worked well at removing excess oil and makeup without causing me to use more than a dime-sized amount of product.

Finally, my favorite product included in Sephora's Play! box was the NEST "Citrine" perfume. I'm thrilled that this product was included because I have found my new favorite perfume in an unlikely choice. Usually when I am trying perfumes I tend to shy away from citrusy scents, but this is an exception! I love the freshness and lightness of this scent and am looking forward to purchasing a bottle after I finish my sample.

If you are looking for a variety of high-end products to test every month I highly suggest looking into Sephora's subscription program. For more information on Play! and to learn more about the products included in my July box click here.

Summer Skin feat. Burt's Bees

Many times this summer, I have found myself reaching for Burt's Bees range of skin and makeup products. With clean and natural ingredients that help improve the texture and quality of skin all while providing sun protection, these products have become staples in my skin regimen.

One of my most used Burt's Bees products is the Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream. What I love about this face wash is not only does it remove any leftover makeup, dirt, and oil from your skin, but it also leaves a cool and tingling feeling due to the hint of menthol within the ingredients. I have traded in all my other face washes for this one because I have yet to find a product that cleans and keeps my skin clear of blemishes better than Burt's Bees.

Moving on from face wash, another product I have been reaching for again and again this summer is the Burt's Bees BB Cream. With noni extract and hydrating lotion, my skin is illuminated all while staying protected from the sun with SPF 15. This BB cream provides more coverage than other drugstore brands I have tried without having to use as much product. My only suggestion would be is if you are not a fan of dewy skin, make sure to set this BB cream with a dusting of powder after application.

If you are dressing up for a summer event, I would recommend using the Burt's Bees Radiance Body Lotion. The best part of this lotion is that it includes mica, a light-reflecting mineral, that gives your skin a slight shimmer. This skin tone enhancing lotion is great on legs and arms for a night out.

The final product I have been using this summer from Burt's Bees are the Facial Cleansing Towelettes with White Tea Extract. As a cheaper and more natural alternative, I decided to give them a go and see if they worked any better than my coveted Neutrogena makeup wipes. While my skin did feel healthier thanks to the cucumber, aloe, and white tea infused within the wipes, I did run into trouble when I tried to remove eye makeup. I noticed my mascara did not come off as easily as it would with Neutrogena. Also, while the product never specified not to use the wipes on all areas of the face, I began to experience a slight burning sensation on my eyes. While these cleansing towelettes provide a more natural route to makeup removal, I think I will be sticking to my Neutrogena makeup wipes.

Burt's Bees products are a great way to improve the health of your skin. With products ranging from makeup to body all including natural ingredients, I look forward to trying out more in the few remaining months of summer.

Fresh Take on the New Year

Instead of dreary January weather, Kansas City was graced today with sunshine and an excuse to ditch our winter coats. Thanks to my friend Marley for exploring with me and playing model for a day.
